Jesus, The Resurrection, and You

Does the resurrection of Jesus really matter if the tomb is empty but life feels unchanged? Because Jesus rose, sin is defeated, new life is available, and salvation is here.   Matthew 28:1–9   1. Jesus is Exalted. 2. Sins are Atoned. 3. Life is Available. 4. Time is Short. 5. Salvation is Near

In this season we’re all holding onto hope. Hope for a vaccine. Hope for a new normal. Hope for the year ahead. Moses was holding onto hope as well. In the first five books of the Bible, he wrote of Jesus and the hope of what he would one day come to do. In this Advent series, we’ll see how Moses was ultimately holding onto hope for Jesus, the coming Messiah. And we will discover that in fact it is Jesus who is holding out hope for us today.

In this season of quarantine, every one of us has lost something: a sense of normalcy, a job, a loved one. And we’re grieving—as a city, as a nation, as a world. In the book of Ruth, we find two women whose worlds are shattered by loss. They don’t know how to pick up the pieces and get back to normal. But it is in these deep shadows that they discover God‘s redeeming mercies. Grief can turn us bitter and hard, or it can make us wise and tender. The outcome hinges on what we do with God‘s mercies in the shadows.
