Dear Moody Church Family,
“It is more blessed to give than to receive.” —Acts 20:35
At times, this verse can feel like it denigrates receiving. Instead, I’ve been trying to view Jesus’ words as elevating giving above something that we all understand is fantastic. I love to receive things: food, hugs from loved ones, compliments, the gift of eternal life—receiving is wonderful! Many of us will look forward to receiving gifts this Christmas season. Receive them with joy!
Many of us will also have the incredible opportunity to give away some of what the Lord has entrusted to us. What is it that makes giving so blessed? Many things, but here are a few to consider:
Giving is loving. Because God so graciously loved us, we reciprocate in love by giving to Him our time, talent, and treasure (1 John 4:19).
Giving is obedient. The Bible is full of commands to be generous. When we give faithfully to the Lord, we free ourselves from the danger of trusting in money instead of trusting in Him (Malachi 3:10–11).
Giving is wise. Being a generous person allows us to invest in eternity rather than in the temporal things of this world. What is better than the mission of Jesus? Nothing! (Matthew 6:20)
When our lives are full of love, obedience, and wisdom, we align our hearts with God’s purposes and experience blessings only He can provide. Let us proclaim with David, “Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good!” (Psalm 34:8).
Thank you for your consistent and faithful giving to the ministry of Jesus through our church. As you prayerfully consider your year-end giving, would you consider a gift to The Moody Church? The following information can help ensure that any gift (either to the general fund or a designated fund) qualifies as a 2025 tax-deductible donation with the IRS:
