I hope you’re enjoying the start to our series through the book of Esther. The story, of course, takes place in the midst of the pressures of life in exile. When you’re a disempowered minority swept up in a dominant culture whose values run counter to your own, that can be a disconcerting reality to cope with. This is nothing new for God’s people. In fact, as our contemporary culture grows increasingly hostile to the way of Jesus, we find ourselves in a situation that rhymes with the pressures of Esther’s day. As Christianity has been largely devalued in the postmodern West, our secular age can feel like a kind of life in exile for those loyal to the way of Jesus.

Today, we’re going to discuss “Daring Faith in a Hostile Culture.” In Esther 2, we find four dangers God’s people face in exile. Those dangers are increasingly present with us in our day. How do we remain faithful amid all the pressures we face? What does daring faith really look like?

Let’s lean into God’s Word and discover the God who is always with His people, even in the midst of exile. Jesus told us, “In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). He is faithful, even when we are faithless. And in Him, we are loved, more than we know!
