It’s that time of year again! Operation Christmas Child launches today. Over the coming weeks, we’ll fill hundreds of shoeboxes with gifts to send to children around the world with the good news of Jesus!
In Ecuador a few year ago, I got to see firsthand the joy these gifts bring to children. Families gather from many villages for this special celebration. The story of Jesus is creatively shared with visual aids and songs. Then each child receives a hand-delivered shoebox.
They wait until everyone has a box, and after a countdown, they open their gifts with wonder. In each box, nestled among the gifts, is more information about what it means to follow Jesus and an invitation to join a new Bible study about the life of Christ. Many of those kids and their parents show up to learn about Jesus. I even know of a number of new churches that were planted as entire families discovered the saving love of Jesus through these shoeboxes.
So let’s go pack a shoebox!
Because it’s so much more than a shoebox; it’s the life-changing gift of Jesus.
