I’m more of a night owl, and so early mornings aren’t usually my thing. But the other day I got up early and saw the sunrise. As the newborn rays of dawn peeked over the horizon, scattering the lakefront clouds with pastel pink, yellow, and orange diffused light, I was reminded of the hope-filled words of Jeremiah in Lamentations 3:22-26.

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.” The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him. It is good that one should wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.

Sometimes the darkness weighs upon us. It is heavy and bleak. And waiting is hard.

But mercy is coming. Light will pierce the veil of shadow. In Jesus, the dawn is already breaking.

Because we are indeed loved, more than we know.
