Happy New Year!

I can’t believe 2024 is already just around the corner. How time flies!

So many of us will be making New Year’s resolutions in the coming hours. This is the year when we’ll lose those extra pounds, kick that stubborn habit, and finally gain forward momentum! We always seem to begin eagerly, and then find the motivation waning come mid-January. For me, the moment of discouragement comes when the streak breaks. Once I slip back into my old habits, I find it tempting to give up.

It’s in that moment that I need to remember: “It’s about progress, not perfection.”

When I try to be perfect, I’m just setting myself up for failure. The streak will always come to an end. Setbacks will come. I need to be ready for them. That’s why the goal can’t be perfection. The goal is progress. One step in front of the other. Heading in the overall right direction. Slow and steady. Get up and try again. It’s about progress, not perfection.

It’s a new year. God’s fresh mercies await us. Let’s press into God’s calling for this coming year. Progress, not perfection, is our aim.

For we are already loved, more than we know!
