Dear Moody Church Family,

What are you thankful for? This is a question we ask our kids each night to help them learn a spirit of thankfulness. I also need to ask myself this question because I am not naturally thankful. How can we be more thankful? My favorite thing is to dwell on the goodness of the Lord. Hebrews 12:28 says, “Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe.” When we focus on the unshakeable Kingdom of our Lord, it will spur great thankfulness in our hearts. What a witness it will be to our friends, neighbors, and co-workers who don’t know Jesus if we can rejoice and be thankful this November despite all the troubles we see around us.

This year, we are focusing our annual Thanksgiving Offering on three ministries that empower the local church to minister to their unique communities, body and soul. In Brazil, we’ll be acquiring and building a new structure for an after-school program overseen by our missionaries, Lee and Regina Bloch. Back home in Chicago, we’ll be providing much-needed funds to a church-plant in Little India that is reaching many people who are far from God with the Gospel. And in Rogers Park, our gift will enable the Family Empowerment Center to not only quadruple its impact through its food pantry where families receive groceries, but also to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ in word and deed (often from members of our Veritas Community!).

This month, we are also wrapping up our Operation Christmas Child campaign. What an exciting way to share the Gospel with a child and provide the joy of a Christmas gift! Be sure to drop off your box at the church no later than November 20. Our blessings are meant to be shared, the greatest of which is Jesus Christ, so by God’s grace, let’s do it together!

Finally, a word of thanks for your consistent financial support to The Moody Church. The Lord is using these gifts to advance His Kingdom, and your partnership is an eternally rewarding part of that process.

If you aren’t regularly giving, would you prayerfully consider coming alongside what the Lord is doing as He renews the world? You won’t be disappointed!

Together,

Bill Van Tuinen
Pastor of Global Outreach and Stewardship
