In communications there’s a little adage that goes like this: “Numbers tell; stories sell.” In other words, when giving a presentation, it’s not just the graphs and data that matter, it’s the stories of real people that will connect most with your audience.
At the end of Acts 2, Luke told us about the beginning of the church and its growth as the apostles did many signs and wonders in the power of the Spirit. Some 3,000 people turned to Christ, and more were added every day. That’s a lot of numerical growth in Luke’s report!
But Dr. Luke is an experienced presenter. He knows that numbers tell, but stories sell and connect. So, as we turn the page to Acts 3, Luke gives us a down-to-earth story of a man whose life was utterly changed by the Gospel. The power of Jesus literally got him back up on his feet and changed his life forever!
This is not just a story of what God did in the past; it’s a miraculous sign pointing to the kind of change He can bring into every one of our lives when we turn to Him. Because in Jesus Christ, we are loved, more than we know
