Sometimes God calls us to do hard things. To be faithful in a thankless job. To keep showing up in a difficult relationship. To face a new day with chronic pain. To walk into the room knowing it will be rough. This Sunday, we’re going to talk about facing the fire. Because sometimes there’s no other way forward but to persevere through the tough stuff, trusting God will hold us fast, come what may.
In Acts 21, the apostle Paul is on his way to Jerusalem. There he will face affliction and imprisonment. He’s warned three different times of what awaits, and yet he also knows his calling is to go there, nonetheless. Where did he find the courage to face the fire? What kept him going, even when he knew it would hurt? Where does endurance come from when God calls us to do hard things?
I pray this passage will encourage you, as it has me. We all need courage to face the fire. Let’s discover what it means to persevere, knowing our God will hold us fast.
For we are loved, more than we know.
