The following is the update from the Pastoral Search Committee that was given to the congregation during the 2018 semiannual meeting on April 22nd, 2018.
We are here to report to you that the activities of the search committee are still going strong. The committee continues to meet regularly, twice a month. Since we began to focus our search on a Lead Teaching Pastor nearly six months ago, we’ve evaluated more than 40 candidates.
Our consultant, Agora, is still contacting men and presenting names to us for our consideration. We have also received a number of referrals from members of the congregation and through the website, each of which we’ve reviewed, discussed, and in some cases have referred on to our consultant for him to explore further.
For those who may not know, Pastor Michael Best has expressed interest in the Lead Teaching Pastor position and is an active potential candidate.
In order to better communicate with our congregation, the church has created a web page with information about the search process and Shared Leadership Model which you can find here. And we’ve also started a blog to address various aspects of the search process and our committee’s activities.
We devote time for prayer during each meeting and rely on the prayers of the congregation as we continue the search process.
One verse of scripture that our chairman Berv Peterson always exhorts us with, and that we’ve adopted as our committee’s verse is Psalm 32:8. “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you”.
Please continue to pray for us as we seek the Lord’s will for our church. If you have any further questions or comments, please don’t hesitate to email us at pastoralsearch@moodychurch.org.
I grew up in Moody Church, was dedicated there by Dr. Ironside after WW2, was married there, met my future husband (then a student at MBI) there, he was ordained to the ministry by the elders of Moody Church, our son was dedicated at Moody. When my mother died suddenly in 1967 Dr. Sweeting oversaw the services, and when my dad remarried Pastor Hermanson officiated. In 1968 the Lord moved us to Virginia to ministry there. Moody Church remains near and dear to my heart–I am so very thankful for the priceless Christian education and experience I gained for 23 years. I tell you this because I desire that you know that I recognize the value of Moody Church and its teaching pastoral ministry.
I wonder if you’ve considered Dr. Paul Nyquist, nor former President of Moody Bible Institute. Despite the circumstances of his sudden resignation from MBI, he is a man of character and an excellent teacher. I know this because he was our pastor in Omaha NE for 2-1/2 years. His wife Cheryl is an ideal pastor’s wife, and a model to emulate.
Thank you.
Hermansen was my great grandfather
