Today we celebrate our beloved Mary Lowman as she approaches retirement from her role as Director of Women’s Ministry, and look forward to how God will continue to use her through The Christian Working Woman in the days ahead.

Mary has had an immeasurable impact on our ministries since joining our staff in October 1997. Here are just a few milestones that mark the ways God has used her to bless so many:

  • Mary was the catalyst for forming the Deaconess Ministry, which continues to serve in so many vital areas of our church today.

  • She started and oversaw the Sisters in Christ Community, Women’s Shepherding Ministry, and Women’s Book Study. These weekly groups connected with thousands of women during her tenure. Her annual Women’s Christmas Luncheon was also a huge outreach ministry for women in the church.

  • She cast the vision for a new outreach ministry to female inmates in Cook County Jail, leading to the formation of the Freedom Sisters ministry. What began as a ministry to inmates grew into a full-time chaplaincy position for Linda Ahrens, who now ministers regularly to officers in the Cook County Jail.

  • Alongside Simone Halpin and others from The Moody Church, Mary was instrumental in launching Naomi’s House, helping women who have been sexually trafficked find freedom in Christ and hope for their futures.

Would you join me in congratulating Mary on a job well done? Her email is mary.lowman@moodychurch.org.

  1. DearMary,

I pray for you still and am amazed at your achievments! Speechless in fact. The Lord has blessed so many though your faithfulness and courage and open heart!
May God continue to live through you and in you.
May He shine His face upon you and your family always.
Thanks forever for your kindness ….

  2. Congrats, Mary, on your retirement. What an impactful ministry you have had to thousands of women over all the years at Moody. I know your personal impact will continue and your winning witness will be recognized by many in your different circles of influence. Blessings to you and Rex as well.

  3. Dear Mary, I had a letter in my pile of unopened mail for a week because I am 70 live alone and without family and have to get a second part time job to survive and am too emotionally stressed to open any mail these days. I go home and go to sleep. BUT TODAY I WAS SURPRISED when I opened it and out pops a card Be Still and know I am God which was the first verse outside the gospel that impacted me when I became a Christian 47 years ago. The letter you signed with it really touched me. I decided to start going to class there at 8:30 starting next week and found you are retiring today on google. I am still going to come. I was a member at the church till Lutzer retired and it took too many years to get a new pastor in my opinion. I rejoice in your life and your ministry given to the church and remember many things when you said at women’s conferences. In God’s love Karen Bressler
