Happy Father’s Day!
Fathers tend to get slighted in our cultural moment. They always seem to be the buffoons and comic relief in our sitcoms. But fatherhood is a high calling rooted in God’s own character as our Heavenly Father. Of course, every earthly father will fall short of imitating the fatherhood of God, but there is a dignity, weight, and nobility to fatherhood that we value as the people of God. So today we honor our fathers. Thank you for your love and leadership. And we also choose to forgive our fathers, knowing God alone is the perfect Father we need.
I’m writing you from Southern Brazil, where Pastor Bill Van Tuinen and I, along with our respective daughters, Annie and Violet, are visiting our missionaries, Lee and Regina Bloch. Pastor Bill and I are speaking at a pastoral training conference on Thursday that the Blochs have organized. God is on the move, raising up dozens of young pastors committed to expository preaching and humble leadership. It is an honor to invest in their development in partnership with the Blochs. On Saturday, I’ll be speaking at a women’s conference that Regina has organized. It’s the biggest theological conference for women in Southern Brazil. Then on Sunday, I’ll be preaching at a partner church here as well. We covet your prayers for health, stamina, and fruitful ministry that will multiply God’s mighty work!
I want to thank Elder Stephen Farish for opening God’s Word for us this Sunday. His pastoral wisdom and theological insights always make my heart soar. I trust you’ll be encouraged and edified. I look forward to being back with you next Sunday. Until then, please remember you are loved, more than you know!
