As a kid, I used to daydream about what it would be like to be able to foresee the future. How amazing would it be to be able to position yourself ahead of every surprise event? You could perfectly time the stock market. You could avoid every natural disaster. You could get in on the ground floor of every technological breakthrough. If you knew the future, you would know exactly how to live today.
In Luke 21, it becomes evident that Jesus knows the future. And what’s more, He’s letting us in on the secret. Jesus precisely predicts the destruction of Jerusalem, an event that lies over 35 years in the future. And on the basis of his clear knowledge of what is to come, Jesus also reveals the end of the story. He tells of His return as the Son of Man in kingdom glory to set all things to rights. And if Jesus is right about the events 35 years in the future, then we can trust Him about His knowledge of the end of days.
Jesus has given us a huge advantage. We now know how the story ends. Since we know the future, we also know exactly how to live today. Jesus gives us five ways to live in these last days. What a gift! We are indeed loved, more than we know.
