Missionary Preparation Program
People are our most important resource, after the Word and the Spirit, for carrying the Good News of Christ to every nation. If we are truly going to send our best, we have a responsibility to train them well for the work of world evangelism.
Preparation is foundational to any training provided by a given mission agency. As a church, we have a ministry context and resources uniquely suited to develop the missionary’s character, knowledge and ministry skills.
Traveling this path will take time. Over months and years, we as a church will have opportunity to observe the candidate closely and to develop a strong, intentional relationship as we make a progressively more significant investment in prayer, collaboration and financial support. Prospective missionaries will want this time to cement relationships with The Moody Church family as they grow in key dimensions of ministry.
The Missionary Preparation Program has two successful outcomes. One possibility is that the candidate and missions leadership realize cross-cultural gospel ministry is not God’s call for or gift in the candidate’s life. This is part of God’s guidance and the Missionary Preparation Program will have prepared the candidate for serving at home as an informed world Christian and sender. The other possibility is that the candidate and missions leadership recognize the candidate’s gift and call, leading on to career missionary service.

Missions Action Partners (MAP)
Missionaries, prayer warriors, and financial supporters do not a missions program make!
It’s a good start, but it’s the bare minimum. If the members of a local church do not go beyond these basics into thoughtful involvement of their gifts and abilities, time and energy, God’s agenda for the world can too easily become a detached, even dull, agenda.
We trust that the missionary we send out will feel connected and fulfilled by seeing our finances arrive every month and by the hope that our unseen prayers are still being offered and prayer letter reports are really being read and used.
So what is a Missions Action Partner? Well, a MAP Team member may do any or all of the following:
- Gets the word out about our missionaries.
- Helps with special, church-wide missions events.
- Blazes new territories for Moody World Missions.
- Organizes prayer gatherings for our missionaries.
- Encourages those on the mission field.
- Gives missionaries a warm welcome when they return home on furlough.
Missions Action Partner - how to get involved
Missions Awareness
Get in on the action by getting out the word about our missionaries and Moody World Missions!
VISION - Write or report for this newsletter which shares news about Moody World Missions and our missionaries. It’s a territory that provides news for our missionaries about their fellow missionaries and about what’s going on at Moody Church. Reporters, writers, photographers, and helpers can move right in and help this ministry develop.
Perspectives - Help facilitate the teaching of Perspectives, a fascinating curriculum by the U.S. Center for World Missions.
Publicity - Promite missions programs and activities at The Moody Church.
Resources - Identify and help distribute missions-related books, videos and other resources at special events or through the church library.
Prayer Planner - Help maintain The Moody Church Missionary Prayer Planner. This binder includes information about our missionaries, helping Christians at The Moody Church pray for and encourage them.

Get in on the action by working on special, church-wide misisons events held throughout the year!

New Territory
Get in on the action by blazing new territory for Moody World Missions
Maybe you’d like to reach international students here in Chicago. Or, start an “English as a Second Language” class in hopes of spreading the Good News. Or, host a regular prayer night for our missionaries. Or lead a short-term missions trip. Let us know!
Prayer Gatherings
Get in on the action by organizing prayer gatherings for our missionaries and the cause of world evangelization!
A.S.K. For A Nation Prayer Events - A.S.K. consists of individuals, classes, small groups, and other fellowships that have adopted a nation for prayer along with the missionaries we know who serve there, so that our church may blanket all the nations with our prayers. You can help organize these special prayer meetings, where believers can interact with a visiting missionary or see an informative video about a specific nation before uniting in prayer for that harvest field.
Missionary Prayer Events - Arrange a time for Christians at The Moody Church to pray together about the special needs of our missionaries. The Missionary Prayer Fellowship has carried out this ministry for many years, and welcomes you to take up residence with them once a month.
Missions Care
Get in on the action by encouraging those on the mission field!
Adoption - Adopt a missionary family that you commit to praying for, correspond with, and encourage through tangible ways.
Care Packages - Send packages with special items that our missionaries cannot get on the mission field, such as local newspaper stories, Christian tapes and even peanut butter!
Correspondence - Write to missionaries based in the U.S. and abroad, either through letters or email.
Thimble Society - Sew and distribute children’s clothing and layettes for Moody Church missionaries and needy families here in Chicago.
Encouragements
Get in on the action by giving missionaries a warm welcome when they return home on furlough.
Housing - Offer temporary housing to visiting missionaries.
Transportation - Provide transportation (or provide funds) as needed.
Meals and Entertainment - Treat a missionary to a meal at a restaurant or in your home, or initiate a special outing with a missionary, perhaps to a museum, park, sporting event or concert.
Pro Bono Services - Donate your professional skills. Doctors, dentists, lawyers, mechanics, plumbers, tax advisors, counselors, computer experts, financial planners, and others are welcome!
Short-Term Adult Missions Program (STAMP)
S.T.A.M.P. was designed for the purpose of fostering greater awareness and understanding of foreign and domestic missions within the congregation of The Moody Church. This is accomplished by providing the opportunity to participate in cross-cultural ministry.
Why do we do this?
We believe that those who participate in a cross-cultural experience develop a greater Christian maturity and become not only more committed to global missions, but also become more effective church members.
Goals we set to achieve through S.T.A.M.P.
- Become more informed and motivated to be global Christians
- Gain an on-hand understanding of what missionaries actually do
- Become more actively involved in missions
- Perform useful missions work on the field
- Encourage Moody Church missionaries and foster closer relationships between the members and missionaries of The Moody Church
