When the pastoral search process began, the Elders interviewed multiple search firms to assist in the process, ultimately deciding, on the recommendation of the Pastoral Search Committee, to hire AGORA. AGORA, headed by Rob Lauer, continues to assist the PSC in multiple ways, helping identify and evaluate potential candidates.

First, AGORA has been and continues to be a source of potential candidates. AGORA, which has helped complete searches for over 170 churches and non-profits, uses its expansive network to identify potential candidates from around the country and globe. Often successful candidates are not actively looking for a new position, they may want their search for a new position to remain confidential, or they may even be unaware when a new position becomes open. AGORA can bridge these gaps and find names of potential candidates that may otherwise go undiscovered. Recently, since the Elders directed the PSC to focus solely on finding a Lead Teaching Pastor, AGORA has focused on finding potential candidates who would be a good fit for this new role, in some cases reaching out to people who would not have been a good fit for a Senior Pastor role.

Second, AGORA helps evaluate potential candidates at all stages of the search. As the PSC is first evaluating a potential candidate, certain questions arise. For example, a potential candidate might be an excellent preacher, but available sermons may not make clear whether the potential candidate’s theology is in full alignment with the Moody Church Constitution. In such a case, AGORA can initiate a conversation with the potential candidate to answer those open questions. Additionally, as potential candidates progress through the search process, AGORA reviews a detailed questionnaire completed by the potential candidates, and has in-depth telephone calls with the potential candidates. AGORA then provides a summary report to the PSC, which is a rich source of additional information for the PSC to consider moving forward.

Please continue to pray for the PSC and AGORA as they search for the candidate God desires to be the Lead Teaching Pastor of the Moody Church.
