How does the story of Jesus’ baptism point towards the greater truths of salvation? From this story, we learn that salvation is about repentance, not religion. John the Baptist rebukes the religious leaders of his day, calling them a “brood of vipers” leading others astray from the true heart of God. Those religious leaders were had fruitless faith. Many of us today uphold religiosity as the path to salvation, but John and Jesus pointed towards a far different path to salvation. Three points about salvation in this message are important: true salvation results in a change of behavior; true salvation is the result of a spiritual birth; and true salvation effects our eternity. Have you been born again and baptized with the Holy Spirit? Can you point to the growth spiritual fruit in your life as a result of salvation?
