In a world that values fame and celebrity, there’s something more that we should focus on: legacy. As we look at the epilogue of Abraham’s life, we discover three keys to leaving a legacy. First, leaving a legacy requires remaining confident in the provision of God. Through the death of Sarah, God provided land to Abraham for the first time; we too can be confident that God will always provide for His people. Second, we should regard character over convenience. God provided a wife for Isaac, answering both Abraham’s request and the servant’s prayer, and ensuring that Abraham’s family line will continue. The third key to leaving a legacy is to realize that fullness is found in following God. When Abraham died, his life was full of years. The key to that fullness was his friendship with God. Through Jesus, we too can be friends of God, and like Abraham find the fullness and satisfaction that comes in following Him.
