| Women Shepherding Women
What is Women Shepherding Women?
It is a newly-designed program for the women
of The Moody Church which will facilitate the Titus 2 model for older
women to teach younger women. Our purpose is to help connect women (protégés)
who desire a shepherd in their lives with a trained and qualified shepherd.
Who can participate in Women Shepherding Women?
Our highest priority is to make this program
available to women who are members and/or regular attenders of The Moody
Church. Other applicants will be considered and accommodated as possible.
You can be involved as a shepherd or as a protégé.
What does it mean to be "shepherded" by
another woman?
It means that you can be connected with a woman who can give you perspective,
wisdom, support, and guidance as you grow into your full potential
as a Christian woman. It is primarily a friendship, combined with advice,
accountability, and discipling.
Life issues as they relate
to spiritual growth, personal life, relationships, marriage and family,
vocational and business decision—some
or all may be included in the relationship with a shepherd.
How are shepherding matches made?
A Steering Committee for the Women Shepherding
Women program will evaluate all applications for protégés and make recommendations for potential
matches with trained shepherds. The recommended shepherd will contact
the protégé for an initial meeting, at which they will discuss their
mutual expectations and determine if the match seems suitable. Every
effort will be made to match protégés with a woman who
has a similar background or experience. This Steering Committee will
have oversight responsibility for each of these shepherding matches.
What is the commitment time for these shepherding
relationships?
Each of the matches will determine at the beginning what the time frame
will be, with intermittent checkpoints to evaluate its effectiveness.
Typically a first-time match would have a six-month initial time frame,
with the possibility of extending it if both women so desire.
What is required of a protégé?
Protégés would be expected to take the commitment
seriously, keep appointments, and actively participate in the relationship.
A covenant will be agreed upon and established for all pairs, where the
expectations and agreements between the two are clearly spelled out,
so that there will be clear communication.
How often will shepherds meet with protégés?
The time, place and frequency of these meetings will be determined by
each pair. However, having prayer together at least once a week, even
if by phone, will be strongly encouraged.
Who can be a shepherd?
A shepherd is a woman who has been down life's
road a bit longer than another woman. She is not perfect, for she is
also growing and learning. She is one who as some expertise that may
be of help to a protégé.
Shepherds will be members of The Moody Church who
have completed a training course for shepherds, taught by Vivette Payne,
which will be scheduled regularly in the church calendar.
How can you become involved in the Women Shepherding
Women program?
?For those who want to be shepherded, a simple
application form needs to be completed. Those are available at the Women’s
Ministry Table after Sunday morning services, by contacting Bev Skrak
in the church office, or by clicking here: “Protégé Profile.” These
applications will then be evaluated by the Steering Committee and you
will be contacted at that point to explain the next step.
For those desiring to be Shepherds,
check the church bulletin for the next training session, or call Bev
in the church office at 312.943.0466 or by email at bev.skrak@moodychurch.org.
