Felicia Middlebrooks, Author and Anchor for WBBM Newsradio 780
Recognized for her warm signature voice, 32-year veteran journalist
Felicia Middlebrooks has co-anchored the award winning morning drive
program for CBS Radio/WBBM Newsradio 780 since 1984, making her the first
woman in Chicago to have survived the highly competitive timeslot for
a record 24 years. She was the first woman in the nation to co-anchor
mornings for CBS Radio and the first African American in that position.
Her early days in radio began in her native Northwest Indiana, where she worked
at four stations before coming to Chicago. Working her way through Purdue University
as a steelworker, after a 7-year stretch, Felicia graduated with honors, obtaining
a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications.
Felicia has won scores of awards, including the coveted Edward R. Murrow Award
for Excellence in News, Associated Press “Best Reporter Award”, and
kudos from other organizations such as the United Press International and Women
in Communications. She has also been featured in several publications including
the Chicago Magazine and Chicago Tribune.
Felicia runs her own production company, Saltshaker Productions, LLC with offices
in Chicago and Los Angeles. She is also a published author with titles including Souls
of My Sisters, Called and is currently working on an inspirational book
titled Everything I Know About Life, I Learned In Radio; Everyday Lessons
for Every Life.
Her first documentary film Somebody’s Child; The Redemption of
Rwanda won First Prize-Best Documentary Short From the Grand Jury at the
New York International Independent Film and Video Festival in 2005. Felicia
is also very involved in local non-profit organizations that defend and support
the vulnerable.
Each day Chicago wakes up to Felicia's voice. From her work in the studio--and
the pages of her books--to documenting human rights violations in Rwanda, she
has much more to report than the day’s news headlines. You’ll
want to attend the April 4 MBN Luncheon to hear her moving story. The ticket
price of $25 includes a great lunch served by the Union League’s chef and
Felicia’s presentation.
This
is a great opportunity to share lunch--and your faith--with a coworker, so don’t
forget to invite them. The luncheon starts at 11:45 am
and finishes at 1pm on Friday, April 4 at The Union League Club, 65
W. Jackson Blvd. in Chicago. Attire is business casual. The luncheon
is $25.00. A whole table (seats 8) can be reserved for $200; half tables
can be reserved for $100.
