About Us

Crossroads is made up of undergraduate and graduate school students from campuses throughout the Chicago area, as well as college-age working professionals.  Our ministry provides opportunities for students to become a vital part of The Moody Church community.  We challenge and equip students through the study of God’s Word, and we connect them with one another for worship, service, and encouragement towards Christian growth.  Our goal is to see students empowered and passionate about representing Christ on their various campuses in and around the city.  We meet on Sunday mornings at Room 303 at 11:30am and Thursday evenings in Room 309 from 6:30-9:30pm.  See Programs page for more details.

Eric/Abby

Our Leadership:

Eric Naus is the Pastor for University Students at The Moody Church.  Pastor Naus is originally from sunny Arizona where he grew up in a family of six.  He first moved to the Chicago area to attend Wheaton College, where he graduated in 2002.  After marrying his wife Abby, Eric sensed God’s call into the pastorate.  While attending seminary at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, Eric served as the staff intern over the University Ministry of the Moody Church.  Upon graduating from seminary in August 2008, Eric came on board as the Pastor for University Students at the church.

Eric and Abby have four young children, live on the North Side of the city, and consider Chicago their long-term home.  Eric especially enjoys reading theology, spending the day outdoors, gulping down cookie dough ice cream in front of a good movie, spending time with his family, and of course, hanging out with college students and pointing them to Christ!

EthanButler

Ethan Butler has a passion for world missions and serves as the Missions Representative for Crossroads.  Having recently returned from an extended stay in Costa Rica, Ethan encourages students to have a missions mindset no matter what their environment is.  Also a gifted musician, songwriter and photographer, Ethan serves The Moody Church in diverse ways.  You could also say he’s the class clown.

JordanEskovitzJordan Eskovitz is a student at the American Academy of Art, majoring in Fine Art Illustration. He serves as the Evangelism Coordinator for events at Crossroads and leads the Welcome Team on Sunday mornings. He enjoys virtually any art form, theological discussions, and forming more personalized handshakes and inside jokes than anyone else on the planet.

DavidGiese

David Giese is a Pastoral Studies major at Moody Bible Institute.  His passion is preaching and he plans on pursuing a Master of Divinity at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary.  David serves Crossroads as the Men’s Small Groups Coordinator, a perfect fit because David connects to his inner man a little too easily during action films.  If he tries to interrogate you, just smile and walk past.

CandaceMoserCandace Moser is a graduate of Moody Bible Institute with a degree in Biblical Theology.  Recently married to her MBI sweetheart, Phil, Candace is a part-time nanny and works at Paper Source in River North.  She is the Connection Coordinator for Crossroads, helping students learn of opportunities to engage with the larger body of Moody Church.  Candace spent her honeymoon in Greece and Spain, and it’s not a good idea to say something unflattering about any of the souvenirs she brought back.

PhilMoserPhil Moser is a Pastoral Ministry major at Moody Bible Institute and a barista at Caribou Coffee.  He is newly married to the love of his life, Candace, who was the first to convince Phil to come to The Moody Church.  Phil is the Worship Coordinator and staff intern for Crossroads.  He’s a talented worship songwriter and bible teacher.  Given the choice between a depressing artsy film and an inspirational sports drama, he would choose the latter every time – much to the dismay of others in Crossroads.

ChristianRipleyChristian Ripley is a Philosophy major at DePaul University and plans on pursuing a Masters and PhD in Philosophy of Religion.  He is committed to connecting students across Chicago campuses with the local body of Christ.  Christian currently works as an independent contractor window washer.  Don’t let his quiet, sage-like persona fool you.  Turn on a camera and he is a comedic treasure trove.  Simply put: Christian is destined for movie stardom….maybe.

RebeccaSawyerRebecca Sawyer is a Nursing major at Loyola University.  She hopes to work in an area of nursing where she can use her gifts to serve God and others.  Rebecca serves as the Hospitality Team Leader for The Gathering where she coordinates weekly meals for dozens of ravenous college kids.  She loves movies, and has seen every single one made before 1980 (basically…).

MicahShumateMicah Shumate is a Biblical Language major at Moody Bible Institute.  Upon graduation, he hopes to enter into full-time pastoral ministry.  He currently works as a Media Representative for Moody Church Media and heads up the Audio/Visual Team for The Gathering.  Scholars are still studying the origin and pronunciation of his last name.  In Crossroads, we accept the traditional “SHOO-mate” and “SHOO-mah-tay” versions.

MarquitaStokesMarquita Stokes graduated from Penn State University in 2009 with a major in Psychology and a minor in Spanish.  She is currently in the Ph.D program at Northwestern University for Clinical Psychology and hopes to be a child/adolescent therapist in the future.  She also serves as the Women’s Small Groups Coordinator in Crossroads.  For all her smarts, Marquita is mysteriously unashamed to admit she attended all three of N’Sync’s headlining tours.

CollinWelchCollin Welch is a graduate of the film program at Tribeca Flashpoint Media Arts Academy with a focus study in directing.  He currently works in the film & television industry in Chicago.  He is the Web Director for Crossroads, managing much of the content on the ministry’s website.  Collin occasionally teaches in Crossroads and, having acquired his exegetical skills in film school, he is the team member most likely to preach heresy from the pulpit.

NicoleWorleyNicole Worley is an Elementary Education major at Moody Bible Institute and wants to teach fifth or sixth grade children in the future.  She loves soccer (and wouldn’t mind coaching) but above all wants to serve the local church wherever God leads her.  Nicole serves as the Sunday Morning Hospitality Leader where she interacts with students on a weekly.  She’s happily engaged to the clueless blonde boy located directly above.
