Happy New Year! With one more year under our belts, we are (to state the obvious) closer than ever to the return of Jesus Christ. Preparing people for His return is our priority at The Moody Church. It’s another way of saying that we “Celebrate the Joy of Changed Lives,” because a changed life is what Jesus gives us when we respond to Him in faith.
For some, that’s a scary thought. They like their lives “as is,” and are not looking for any radical changes. But when our eyes are opened to see what God designed us to be, we realize that the changes the Lord brings—to our desires, our perspectives, our priorities—are beautiful, holy, and desirable.
I am intrigued by what Jesus said in Luke 17:26–27 about His Second Coming: “Just as it was in the days of Noah, so also will it be in the days of the Son of Man. People were eating, drinking, marrying and being given in marriage up to the day Noah entered the ark. Then the flood came and destroyed them all.” In other words, the return of Christ will happen when we are going about our daily business, and then, all at once, the reality of eternity will become clear. The curtain will be parted and the unseen spiritual realities that surround us will appear with great power.
Are you ready for that day? I pray that if Jesus returns in 2017—or you or I go to meet Him in death before that—we will indeed be ready to stand before Him. Because of Jesus we can be!
For His glory,
