About Us

We are the Bible and Prayer Community! Each week, a group of God-loving individuals meet for prayer, praise, and the study of God’s Holy Word. Yet this is no ordinary gathering…it is both diverse and unique! As our community’s members are all ages, professions, and from widely varying walks of life, we celebrate our diversity and uniqueness in that we are connected not only as a community - we consider ourselves a family!  Focusing on a different book of the Bible each quarter, we perform a concentrated study of God’s Word.  We would be glad to have you join us! Because we love people, we strive to make you feel welcome and to assist you in assimilating into the community as smoothly as possible. Our beginnings as a community date back to 1953, when we began as a Sunday School class named the Business and Professional Class. Our group has evolved over the years, being transformed from a class to a community. Yet one thing remains the same – our commitment to learning and living God’s Word.  We thank you for visiting our website and pray that you’ll come to visit us at our weekly community on Sundays from 8:30 a.m. until 9:25 a.m. in Room 307 of Moody Church’s Community Life Center!  For questions or inquiries, please contact us at the Bible and Prayer Community.

Overview

In the Bible & Prayer Community, adults of all ages and from a variety of backgrounds meet together as we seek grow in our relationship with our Lord, Jesus Christ.  Our class begins with both praise & prayer and concludes with a Bible lesson.  A different book of the Bible is focused on each quarter, alternating between Old Testaments and New Testament books, with the goal of having studied through the entire Bible over the course of eight years.

History

Since its founding in 1953, The Moody Church’s Bible and Prayer community (formerly known as the Business and Professional class and then as the Fellowship class) has been a gathering of diverse persons committed to studying – and living – God’s Word.  As the group evolved from a class to a community, it took on a slightly different focus.  The community sought to bring together people who wanted to be a part of a diverse yet committed group of Bible studying believers. In Bible and Prayer, we are glad to be such a community.  In Bible and Prayer, we are glad to be a community that provides Biblical resources and tools for study and reflection. We share knowledge by establishing and maintaining relationships throughout our community, The Moody Church, and the body of Christ.

Curriculum and Learning

In Bible and Prayer, our curriculum is based on a model of “Through the Bible in 8 Years”. Every quarter, the curriculum alternates between the Old and New Testaments of the Bible. We are currently studying the book of Matthew. Since this model is neither a brief survey nor an in-depth study of the Bible, it enables community members to see the ‘whole picture’ of the Bible in the shortest amount of time.)

Several tools are used for study. The primary tool is the Holy Bible. To supplement, we use various helps such as the Scripture Press weekly lesson and Power for Learning booklets.

Outreach

In addition to our primary community activities of praise, prayer, and Bible study, Bible and Prayer performs outreach both domestically and internationally to Moody Church’s missionaries, and it sponsors programs that promote health and safety of our class members who may be experiencing difficulties. We provide visits to sick and shut-ins, cards and flowers for encouragement, and have a dedicated prayer team that bombards heaven on behalf of those who may be in need of support and comforting.

Leadership Team

In real estate there is a saying ‘Location, Location, Location’. In Bible and Prayer, one of our mottos is ‘Organization, Organization, Organization’. We are grateful to have some of the finest organizers in The Moody Church.  Their fine-tuned processes allow for the smooth flow of information throughout each weekly community gathering and aid in the development and growth of the community’s members.

Jim Wesby

Jim Wesby is the President of the Bible and Prayer Community. A member of the Community since 2008, one of Jim’s responsibilities as President is to coordinate and manage the smooth flow of the Community’s weekly order of service. One of the things that Jim finds encouraging is the time he gets to spend with other believers in the Community.  What keeps Jim coming week after week is the opportunity to study the Bible and pray with, and for others. Communication is important to Jim. Greeting believers as they arrive to class and finding out how people are doing in their daily lives, Jim is always ready to lend an ear or a helping hand.  The “Through the Bible in 8 Years” curriculum and the fellowship outings are things that both enhance his walk with Christ and strengthen his fellowship with the Community’s members.
